Hearty Lasagna for a Crowd

Ingredients
  

Meat Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 large Onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 pounds Ground beef
  • 1 can Crushed tomatoes 28 oz
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
Béchamel Sauce
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 1/4 cup All-purpose flour
  • 4 cups Milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg
Lasagna Assembly
  • 12 sheets Lasagna noodles No-boil preferred
  • 3 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

Method
 

Prepare the Meat Sauce
  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, sauté until translucent.
  2. Add ground beef, cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes.
Make the Béchamel Sauce
  1. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  2. Gradually whisk in milk, cooking until thickened. Season with nutmeg and salt.
Assemble the Lasagna
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a large baking dish.
  2. Layer 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by béchamel, meat sauce, and mozzarella. Repeat layers, finishing with béchamel and mozzarella on top.
  3. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the top. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  4. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Serve
  1. Allow lasagna to cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.

Notes

This lasagna can be prepared a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator. Just bake before serving.
