  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Bread
  • 8 slices brioche or challah bread thickly sliced
Caramelization
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for caramelizing

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  2. Arrange the brioche or challah bread slices in a baking dish and pour the custard mixture over the bread, ensuring all slices are well soaked. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight for best results.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Bake the soaked bread slices for 30 minutes, or until golden brown and set.
  5. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
  6. Sprinkle the granulated sugar evenly over the top of the baked French toast and use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until golden and crisp.
